Smif-N-Wessun Interview With iHEARTDilla.com
Among the groups that helped define the gritty and grimy sound that popularized hip-hop music in the 1990s was Smif-N-Wessun. In 1995, Smif-N-Wessun released Dah Shinin’, which is considered a hip-hop classic. With this record, Smif-N-Wessun, along with their Boot Camp Clik affiliates, helped set the tone and standard for the New York hardcore street sound that still influences many hip-hop artists today.
On June 28, Smif-N-Wessun, will release their fifth album, Monumental on Duck Down Music Inc. Monumental is produced entirely by the Chocolate Boy Wonder himself, Pete Rock and will include features from Sean Price, Rock, Styles P, Raekwon, Bun B, Memphis Bleek, Freeway, Buckshot, and Black Rob. This album will definitely be one of this year’s most anticipated releases.
iHEARTDilla recently had an opportunity to speak with Tek and Steele, collectively known as Smif-N-Wessun, about their upcoming album, their feelings on the Golden Era of Hip-Hop, and other upcoming projects.
